Safety concerns when visiting waste processing facilities

Safety and its management are our top priorities. On this page, we have compiled information and guidelines to help you conduct your business at our processing facilities while ensuring your own safety and that of others.

Safety begins with understanding risks

The handling and preparation of waste materials for further use requires versatile technology and the operation of heavy machinery. These activities always involve important safety considerations. The waste itself also directly impacts the safety of both employees and the environment.

Although the heavy machinery on site is substantial, it moves quickly and agilely. Visibility can be limited, especially when transporting loads. In addition, items that do not belong in regular waste can pose safety risks — particularly batteries, which may be damaged during handling and create a fire hazard.

Maintaining safety distances, driving at low speeds, and using appropriate protective equipment are responsibilities shared by everyone on our sites.

Safety guidelines for our facilities

Use protective equipment

When moving around or working on Remeo’s site areas, wear high-visibility clothing, safety shoes, a helmet, safety glasses, and, when necessary, hearing protection and work gloves. During winter, we recommend using studded shoes, as many areas of the site can be very slippery.

Drive carefully and be mindful of others on site

When driving on site, always maintain a safe distance from other vehicles and give way to heavy machinery. When unloading, keep at least 5 metres away from material handling equipment. The speed limit on our sites is 20 km/h.

Heavy machinery always has the right of way

Material handling machines move quickly and their operators have limited visibility. When moving on foot, always keep a safe distance from vehicles and wear high-visibility clothing. Make sure to establish eye contact to confirm the machine operator has seen you.

Watch out for waste piles

Avoid walking near waste or bale piles. There is a risk of the pile collapsing, either on its own or due to movement by machinery. The piles may also contain materials that can cause snagging hazards. Therefore, always keep a safety distance of at least 3 metres from bale piles.

Ensure safety before starting work

Do not start work if it cannot be done safely. You can always ask for help from our facility staff. If you notice any safety deficiencies or incidents, you can report them using the QR codes displayed around the site or by contacting our personnel directly.

Smoking is prohibited

To ensure fire safety, smoking is generally prohibited at our facilities. However, some sites have designated smoking areas where smoking is permitted.

If you are visiting our facility for the first time or need assistance at the scale, you can complete the weighing process by calling to our customer service. Mobile weighing is done using the mScales app, and we recommend this method for customers who visit our facilities regularly.
At our waste processing facilities, we primarily accept only one type of waste per load. Please ensure that the waste is properly sorted before arrival and that you inform our scale service of the correct contents of your load. While on the facility premises, it is important to pay attention to occupational safety, which includes the use of personal protective equipment and driving safely by adjusting your speed to the situation and being mindful of working machinery.
